Lunar Eclipse HDR by Entophile Lunar Eclipse HDR by Entophile
Photo myself, K. Lindeman, Please don't use or reproduce it without my permission.

Something like 14 different images PAINFULLY crafted together to get one moon with the huge color range I saw with my true eyesight. Took around an hour to complete, and due to the HDR processing, the craters and scars are a bit warped. Oh well...best astrophotography I've done.

Feb 20th Lunar Eclipse.

A what? It isn't stock, so Please don't use it in any photomanipulation or something. But as a reference, that's fine. Thanks!

I knooowww...and it's next to impossible to HDR something like an eclipse...it MOVES! I did the best I could, and am relatively pleased with my results...but I wish it could be better.

Really stunning photo.
The HDR process seems to have worked well for you, the full colour range of the moon is well preserved.
Excellent composition as well.

thanks very much! This wasn't a tradition automated HDR, so I'm doubly as glad it worked out swimmingly.

Just a question then, for an exposure like this what settings (approx) did you use? Number of steps and so on.

I dont really remember, but there were 13 shots in all. Because of the moon's slow movement across the sky, a regular HDR autmate was impossible- each shot was a liiiitle different position.

So./.there was much cropping, layering, and cursing involved.

The next Total Lunar Eclipse will be about two years from now, so if you missed it, no worries, and the next total Solar Eclipse will be Aug 1st, and can be seen in the North/Eastern part of the U.S., so New York, and Maine, places up there will be able to see it.
Also, in your pic, the little dot, in the middle left area, is Saturn it was visable as well...unless you messed with the pic, and altered it, thats where Saturn should have been...so, im pretty sure that thats what it is....very nice picture!! :)

Theres one coming in 2010 if I heard correctly. I'm probably wrong though, they were probably talking about a partial.

Partial eclipses happen around the world several times a year, but we cant see most of them. The next full, visable-to-all lunar eclipse will be in the next 10 years!
